top of page

"Dreams" is the debut single of Irish rock band the Cranberries. It was released in 1992 and later appeared on the band's debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? (1993).

The song reached the top 40 on the US Hot 100 Airplay and the top 30 of the UK Singles Chart in early 1994. A 1990 demo version was released in Ireland only in the summer of that year under their initial band name, the Cranberry Saw Us.

At the end of the song, the backing vocals are sung by Mike Mahoney, ex-boyfriend of Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan.

In 2017, the song was released as an acoustic, stripped down version on the band's Something Else album.

Lyrics

Oh, my life

Is changing everyday

In every possible way

And oh, my dreams

It's never quite as it seems

Never quite as it seems

I know I felt like this before

But now I'm feeling it even more

Because it came from you

Then I open up and see

The person falling here is me

A different way to be

Aaah, la-a-la-aaah

La la laaaa

La-a-la-aah

La-ah ah aaah

I want more

Impossible to ignore

Impossible to ignore

And they'll come true

Impossible not to do

Impossible not to do

And now I tell you openly

You have my heart so don't hurt me

You're what I couldn't find

A totally amazing mind

So understanding and so kind

You're everything to me

Oh, my life

Is changing everyday

In every possible way

And oh, my dreams

It's never quite as it seems

'Cause you're a dream to me

Dream to me
